About me
Chiron Hooson (he/him) is a community advocate and events leader based in Melbourne, driving progress at the intersection of LGBTIQ+ health, inclusion, and equity in Australia. As Conference & Events Coordinator at Thorne Harbour Health, he leads impactful initiatives that support LGBTIQ+ communities and people living with HIV across Victoria.
A passionate advocate for cultural diversity and LGBTIQ+ rights, Chiron founded and chairs Thorne Harbour's first Multicultural Advisory Committee. He was also instrumental in supporting the national LGBTIQ+ Women’s Health Conference, reviving history tours at the Melbourne AIDS Memorial Garden, and coordinating Thorne Harbour Health’s 40th anniversary program in 2023. This included organizing a 500-person gala at Melbourne Town Hall and overseeing the organisation’s largest-ever Midsumma Pride March entry, which featured Australia’s longest progressive Pride flag.
Innovation and community-driven events have been at the heart of Chiron’s work. He created the Red Ribbon Run, Australia’s only fun run dedicated to commemorating World AIDS Day in 2024, in conjunction with Victoria’s largest street appeal. Across World AIDS Day events, Chiron oversees the coordination and support of 200 volunteers to ensure the successful impact of the organisations outreach activities ensuring 20,000 Victorian Red Ribbons are distributed to mark the day.
Recently this year, Chiron launched Thorne Harbour Health’s first year-long LGBTIQ+ Multicultural & Faith events program, a unique partnership with Victoria’s most prominent LGBTIQ+ council, the City of Yarra. In recognition of his contributions, Chiron was named as part of Out for Australia’s 30 Under 30 in 2024, celebrating his impact as a changemaker in LGBTIQ+ spaces.
