THE DC HUMAN RIGHTS ACT: A LEADER IN PROTECTIONS FOR THE LGBTQIA+ COMMUNITY
Washington, DC has long stood at one of the forefronts of LGBTQIA+ protections in the United States, building a model of inclusive policy and proactive civil rights enforcement. This training, led by the DC Office of Human Rights (OHR), will highlight the District's efforts to safeguard LGBTQIA+ residents and visitors through comprehensive legal protections, education, and enforcement.
Participants will learn about the landmark DC Human Rights Act (DHCRA), one of the most progressive civil rights laws in the U.S., which explicitly protects against discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and more across 23 protected traits in educational intuitions, employment, housing, and public accommodations and government services.
Attendees will walk away with practical insights into DC’s rights-based framework to create affirming, equitable environments for LGBTQIA+ people worldwide.
