About me
Helga Haraldsdóttir serves as Chairperson of Reykjavík Pride, a position she has held since joining the board in 2018. Under her leadership, this fully volunteer-run organization has become one of Iceland's largest cultural events, bringing thousands of people together each August to celebrate queer visibility, rights, and community. Remarkably, nearly a quarter of Iceland's entire population joins the annual Pride Parade in Reykjavík—a powerful display of solidarity, joy, and resistance that has earned the organization recognition as "the world's biggest small Pride."
Working alongside a dedicated team of seven board members and approximately 50-60 volunteers, Haraldsdóttir helps organize a week-long festival filled with art, activism, and celebration in the heart of Reykjavík. Her approach to Pride leadership reflects a deep commitment to human rights advocacy, community engagement, and celebrating queerness in all its diverse forms.
Beyond her LGBTQIA2S+ advocacy work, Haraldsdóttir brings extensive leadership experience as head chef at a Michelin-recommended restaurant in Reykjavík and as an entrepreneur who has successfully founded and grown a food brand. Her professional work across both culinary and advocacy spheres demonstrates her commitment to creativity, sustainable practices, and community building.
Haraldsdóttir's unique combination of grassroots organizing experience and business leadership provides valuable perspective on how small nations can create significant impact in advancing LGBTQIA2S+ rights while building inclusive communities that celebrate diversity and human dignity.
