Breve biografía Carla Antonelli:
Carla Antonelli, 1959, es la primera mujer trans en acceder a un escaño como diputada en España, 2011 / 2021 por el PSOE, y primera senadora en las Cortes Generales de España, 2023, con Más Madrid. Activista por los derechos del colectivo LGTBIQ+ desde 1977, donde aún estaban vigentes las leyes de la dictadura que perseguían al colectivo. Trabajó en el programa electoral de José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero para la inclusión del Matrimonio Igualitario, 2005, y promotora de la Ley de Identidad de Género, 2007, que posibilitó a las personas trans modificar su partida de nacimiento sin necesidad de cirugías genitales.
Desde la Asamblea de Madrid fue ponente de la Ley Integral de Transexualidad y la Ley Integral Contra la LGTBIfóbia el año 2016. Abandonó su pueblo natal, Güímar, Tenerife, en 1977, para no regresar hasta 32 años después donde recogió el premio Cardón de Iniciativas Turísticas y fue pregonera de las fiestas patronales de su municipio.
Desde mayo de 2021 hay una calle que lleva el nombre de Carla Antonelli en la pedanía de El Socorro, donde pasó los veranos de su infancia. Antonelli ha recibido a lo largo de su trayectoria numerosos premios por su constante defensa de la igualdad, como el Premio del Ministerio de Igualdad 2020 y la Medalla de Oro de la isla de Tenerife en 2025. Ha impartido numerosas charlas en universidades, colectivos LGTBIQ+ y centros educativos en España y diferentes países del mundo.
Fue una de las impulsoras de la actual Ley Integral Trans Estatal de 2023, lo que la llevó al extremo en octubre de 2022 de darse de baja de militancia en el PSOE a modo de protesta y denuncia, por los retrasos de la ley e intentos de enmendarla para desposeerla de las principales reivindicaciones. En la actualidad es de nuevo diputada electa en la XIII Legislatura en la Asamblea de Madrid, donde concurrió como candidata independiente y número cinco en las listas de la formación política Mas Madrid, para convertirse en la primera senadora trans de España, por designación autonómica el 17 de agosto de 2023.
Brief Biography of Carla AntonelliCarla Antonelli, born in 1959, is the first transgender woman to hold a seat as a representative in Spain, serving from 2011 to 2021 with the PSOE party, and the first transgender senator in the Spanish Parliament (Cortes Generales) in 2023 with Más Madrid. She has been an activist for LGBTIQ+ rights since 1977, when dictatorial laws persecuting the community were still in effect. She worked on José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero's electoral program to include Marriage Equality in 2005, and was a key promoter of the Gender Identity Law of 2007, which allowed transgender people to modify their birth certificates without requiring genital surgeries.
During her time in the Madrid Assembly, she was the spokesperson for the Comprehensive Transgender Law and the Comprehensive Law Against LGTBIphobia in 2016. She left her hometown of Güímar, Tenerife, in 1977 and didn't return for 32 years, when she received the Cardón Tourism Initiatives Award and was the keynote speaker at her municipality's patron saint festivities.
Since May 2021, a street in the district of El Socorro, where she spent her childhood summers, has been named after Carla Antonelli. Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards for her consistent defense of equality, including the Ministry of Equality Award in 2020 and the Gold Medal of the island of Tenerife in 2025. She has given numerous talks at universities, LGBTIQ+ organizations, and educational centers in Spain and various countries around the world.
She was one of the driving forces behind the current State Comprehensive Trans Law of 2023, which led her to leave the PSOE party in October 2022 in protest against delays to the law and attempts to amend it to strip it of its main demands. Currently, she is again an elected representative in the 13th Legislature in the Madrid Assembly, where she ran as an independent candidate and number five on the political party Más Madrid's list, becoming Spain's first transgender senator by regional appointment on August 17, 2023.
