Workshop: "INDIGIQUEER: STORYTELLING IN ARTS & MEDIA NOW!"This powerful panel, moderated by Jen Deerinwater (Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma), brings together Indigenous queer creatives from across the globe to explore how Indigiqueer voices are transforming arts, media, and community narratives while challenging colonial erasure of both Indigenous and LGBTQIA2S+ identities. Featuring Fabiana Gibim (Guarani-Kaiowá, Brazil–Paraguay border), Rivolta (Afriqiyah and Abya Yala), and Elton Naswood (Navajo Nation, Near to the Water People Clan), this essential conversation examines the intersection of sovereignty, queerness, and creative expression.
Panelists will address:
- How Indigiqueer artists are reclaiming narratives and creating spaces where their full identities are celebrated
- Strategies for challenging colonial systems that have systematically erased both Indigenous and queer experiences
- The critical importance of addressing queerness within Indigenous communities while honoring cultural protocols
- Innovative approaches to storytelling that affirm both Indigenous sovereignty and LGBTQIA2S+ visibility
- Models for building sustainable creative platforms that center Indigiqueer perspectives
This dynamic conversation explores how Indigenous LGBTQIA2S+ creatives are shaping culture and carving spaces where their existence is recognized, respected, and celebrated. Special attention will be given to the work of Crushing Colonialism in empowering Indigiqueer artists and media-makers across the globe.
Join us for this vital discussion that centers voices often marginalized even within Indigenous and LGBTQIA2S+ spaces, building a future where all identities and sovereignty are affirmed. This workshop embodies the conference's commitment to amplifying intersectional experiences while recognizing that true liberation must address the ongoing impacts of colonialism on both land and bodies.
